Silhouette of lil' Hannah

I've loved silhouettes for the longest time, WAY before the current trend. Always wanted a silhouette wall, but not of random images/ladies... so yesterday (Monday is my no-Hannah, plenty-housework day) I got cracking.

Out of 1500 shots featuring Hannah, there was only one decent side shot of her. Created a silhouette, gathered some things, chose a pretty paper (I collect paper)...

I'm really happy with it... can't hang it up yet since we're moving soon! :)

White fire blazes

I blogged a few weeks ago about returning from a short break Sydney to the in laws in Sydney with some goodies. I'm still reading one of those goodies, book on jewels I got from a junk bookshop on the drive home.

Such a wonderful insight into the history, cultural significance and formation of jewels. In a way I can't explain, it makes me feel good me that the Victoria Finlay gives Diamonds the last chapter, rather than the first. But I digress...

The interesting read allows me to appreciate the few pieces I have. Here I share one...

This was mum's. She has a knack for losing jewellery (I once found her wedding ring in the drain outside the house next to a frog - slipped off while hand washing clothes) so I think this became mine for fear of losing this gorgeous piece. The twinkling blazing lights have always drawn me in and this remains one of my favourite pieces.

Most opals are blue or green... black being the most precious. Mine is white with twinkling lights. This has a thousand different looks to it, encased in a delicate filigree of antique silver and marcasite.

I love my one Opal! :)

Home

We are in the process of settling papers etc our new home! Can't reveal too much because nothing's final, but here are sneak peeks...

Mid 1990s brick veneer home. The current owners smoke indoors (Dammit) so we have to wash the walls down ... which is good for me because I get to repaint! :)

More news to come :) I'm really excited about it, because I got a home to finally paint and we got it at a goooooood price! :) Yay for desperate sellers :)

A little Room To Grow loving!!!!

Room TO Grow CEO Lilach sent me a LOVELY gift!!!

Very sturdy stuff, this. I can imagine it as a children's table and chair set and how a young 'un could sit on the table or chair.

Thank you! I can't wait to get it hung in our home!

Counting Birds Wall Art Cards

One for my wish list, for sure. Not for H's room though! I'd love this in my office.

US$20 for a pack of ten whimsically illustrated collage of fabric and watercolour cards featuring birds, its name, and the number it represents.
So you get One Robin, Two Cardinals, Three Morning Doves all the way up to Ten Chickadees.

SIZE: 10" L x 8" W
from UnCommon Goods.

Hall cabinet

Yay! It's finally here. I've been hunting for the right hall cabinet for ages and finally, at Salvation Army, for $95.

Minutes after arrival. Hannah's already had her blocks in it. Discovered to my delight a drawer just above the blocks.

After a buff of teak oil and reorganising my stuff.

It's needing a lamp... and I would love to hang my newly painted mirror :)
But I need a home for that, because rentals only allow 3M hooks and this is heavier than the "1kg load per hook".

Mud wall sculptures

wow. forget wallpaper (which I love.) Had to feature this work when I read it on design snitch.

Get a wall scupture made from MUD by Tom Moberg! I think of myself a pretty decent artist: H can recognise the stuff I draw on her butcher's paper. But never could I create these!

A Little Girl's Dream

Designer Tambra Champagne has created a beautiful fairyland bedroom for a little client. The result is a jaw dropping pleasure trove in rich chocolate brown and lush pinks in all shades and textures.

Play kitchen and storage

Two touches I love: removing the mirror from a floor mirror and painting magnetic paint instead... and hanging a birdcage from a pink featherboa.

Adding little personalised touches to the pink velvet curtain.
